Is it just a collectors edition or is it something more sinister?

Bit of a heavy one for the first blog, but something gained my attention that could probably do with been discussed on more than just Twitter!

But the issue of  sexualisation in video games has cropped up! Or rather people are concerned about the XBOX 360 exclusive of DEAD ISLAND RIPTIDE Zombie Bait Edition bikini clad zombie torso (see pic below).

Now the main concern seems to be that this figurine exists! People tweeted GAME (@GAMEdigital) about this product being slightly controversial and that they are stocking it! As stated by GAME it is a market wide SKU, therefore it is also on AMAZON, ShopTo and other such places! The fact that people have got upset about this is expected, quite frankly we seem to be OK with bikini clad female characters in games but not OK with the bust (no pun intended) of an NPC on our shelves! The games that feel more like exploiting sexualisation are games like DEAD OR ALIVE, DEAD OR ALIVE EXTREME BEACH VOLLEYBALL, BAYONETTA, LOLLIPOP CHAINSAW, and even the original TOMB RAIDER games.

Dead Or Alive and Dead Or Alive Extreme Beach Volleyball being the main offenders, with female characters with over sized breasts jumping around wearing their bikinis (see below)!

Or Lollipop Chainsaw a game where you play as a cheerleader with a very short skirt! Surely these are the main culprits for video game sexualisation and not a game based in a holiday resort (where people would be wearing bikinis) that just so happens to be a zombie game!!! But surely people can't be offended by a figurine?

If it's the figurine that is included within an 18 rated game then surely the Poison Ivy Statue that Forbidden Planet sells is offensive?

or even Harley Quinn showing some cleavage?

Maybe some Starfire?

Maybe it's because these characters are from comics? Maybe it's because they aren't promoted on more websites with higher traffic? But where were the offended people when GAME, GAMESTATION and AMAZON stocked these?

Both figures show plenty of flesh but nobody was too concerned, because ultimately it was the customers choice to buy the item.... much like the zombie bait edition of Riptide will be on it's release this Friday (26th April 2013)!!
